When your opinion sucks

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. That’s a fact. In fact, unless you are racist, sexist, or the modern equivalent of the arms-raised-in-salute movement of the 1940s, you should nod your head when I say that “Right to an Opinion” should be a fundamental human right.

These guys didn’t nod

Ironically, people also have a right to reject your opinion, even and (in some cases) especially when you are making sense. They’ll just flat out refuse to see eye-to-eye to you, and you can’t do much about it. You know why?

Because they have the right to an opinion too.

Of course, rejection feels terrible and we all cope with it in different ways. But what do we do, when you believe with all the certainty we can muster that we are right, and this person who we are trying to help insists otherwise???

Some say “just click ignore”.

See this, folks? Here’s how you click the ignore button

But what if you can’t? What if by some weird miracle (some convoluted biological neural process, more likely), you actually care about the person?

Some say “press your point harder”

Have you people even been in this situation? How could you even suggest this? Now he/she/they think(s) we’re jerks and we have shattered an important relationship.

Some say “get your point across differently”

Curve that ball, boy … or girl … or bobrisky

The problem with this is, not everyone can throw a curve ball. In fact, I have absolutely no idea how this is done. If i even try, the ball would probably shoot like a straight arrow and hit @chilas in the face. Which probably won’t be so bad.

But we aren’t talking about balls, yea?

Sorry, that probably came out wrong

So, back to the main point … What do you do when you believe you are right, you are trying to get your obviously awesome opinion across, (it could be to a loved one, an acquaintance, or even at your place of work), and someone somewhere thinks regardless of all the reason in the universe that your opinion just sucks?
