On how to be employable

If you're in school and worried about getting a job when done, there's a simple test.

Ask yourself, "are there things I can do that people need to be done?"

If your answer is No

Don’t panic!

  • Ask yourself what you enjoy doing.

  • Ask around to see if there’s any way to turn that into a skill that people need.

It doesn't matter what it is that you enjoy, if people will pay for it, you should take it seriously.

Note: If nothing interests you, then you should panic.

If your answer is Yes

Be sure it is something you enjoy.

Doing something you absolutely enjoy will get you through bad times in your career, and give you peace of mind, generally.

When you find a skill you want to improve, do everything you can to improve it.

Don’t say "but, that’s not what I’m studying in school".

Read about it, talk about it, practice it (if you can).

Make it your co-curricular activity, even if nobody is paying you to do so, because someday, someone will.
