Place the Letters - A Toddler Activity
A fun and interactive way to help toddlers learn to spell words, recognize letters, and develop motor skills, all through play!

The Activity
First, why? As you probably know from my previous post on reading words, I'm trying to take a creative approach to teaching my Daughter to do things like listen, recognize letters, numbers, read words, and more, and I have been relying on building games to help.
In this activity, your child is presented with a word, displayed as empty letter slots. Scattered around the screen are the letters needed to complete the word.
The challenge? Drag and drop each letter into the correct slot, in the right order, to spell and complete the word. Each letter dragged in the correct order is pronounced while dragging.
Once the word is complete, the app pronounces it aloud, displays an animated GIF illustrating the word, and celebrates the player's achievement.
Players can move on to the next word with a click, or adjust the difficulty level—making the words longer or shorter to match their skill.
How This Activity Helps
This game is designed to:
- Encourage children to drag and drop letters in the correct order, reinforcing spelling and motor skills.
- Play audio pronunciations for each letter, but only in the correct sequence.
- Pronounce the entire word once it's completed.
- Celebrate success with positive feedback and fun visuals.
By combining these elements, I hope to make learning to spell both effective and enjoyable for young children.
